Near the historic city of Lagos, commanding magnificent views of the Lagos bay and distant Monchique hills the course was designed by the famous English golf architect Frank Pennink.

His design made outstanding use of the unique location and incorporated five Links holes amongst the dunes close to the Atlantic beach of Meia Praia. Its design and location results in the Palmares offering a unique challenge amongst golf courses in southern Europe.
